Michael McCarty has been named senior director of network and telecommunications services for Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM). Former senior director of JHM's operations and technical support, McCarty has 25 years experience in information systems, including wide area and local area networking and voice communications services.
In his new position, McCarty will be responsible for networking and voice services for Hopkins' East Baltimore and Bayview campuses. This includes implementation and ongoing support of a new network infrastructure designed to meet the needs for general data, image, video and voice traffic, as well as implementation of a new Internet Class B license. Other responsibilities include network security, development of local area and wide area networking standards, and overseeing all networking services.
McCarty joined Hopkins in 1994 as manager of network services and in less than a year was promoted to the position of director, asset management, network services and desktop computing. Prior to joining Hopkins, he was president of Adaptive Sciences Corporation, a consulting firm specializing in general and technical management, from 1992 to 1994. From 1988 until 1992, McCarty held several posts at USF&G Corporation, culminating in his appointment as assistant vice president for technology services. Prior to joining USF&G, he managed a variety of technical data processing positions for Montgomery Ward.
A graduate of Towson University with a bachelor's degree in business administration, McCarty lives in Bel Air with his wife, Carol, and their three children.
