As the attached materials note, for the second consecutive year, The Johns Hopkins Hospital was named as the hospital most preferred for overall health care services in the Baltimore metropolitan area in a survey conducted by the National Research Corporation (NRC).
Based on the 1997 NRC Healthcare Market Guide study, top-rated facilities were determined from nearly 165,000 households' opinions of 2,500 hospitals in 100 metropolitan areas. The primary health care decision-maker within each household named the hospital he or she would choose first for all household health care needs. While 119 hospitals were named "Quality Leaders" as a result of the study, Hopkins was the only hospital so named in Maryland, and one of the few academic medical centers selected for the award in other regions surveyed.
