The Transplant Recipients International Organization (TRIO) will celebrate the chartering of its newest chapter, the Greater Baltimore TRIO, at a reception at 6:30 p.m., February 27, at the Westview Lounge and Supper Club in Catonsville. Johns Hopkins transplant specialists James Burdick, M.D., and Andrew Klein, M.D., Assistant Surgeon General Kenneth Moritsugu, M.D., and Senators Barbara Mikulski and Paul Sarbanes of Maryland will be among the dignitaries attending. The media are invited.

TRIO chapters' mission is to make the public aware of the severe shortage nationwide of organs for transplant, and to provide support, education and advocacy for transplant candidates, recipients and their families. TRIO is an international, non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. About 3,000 people die each year in the United States waiting for an organ transplant, and another 100,000 die annually never having qualified for a place on the waiting list.

For more information about the reception, please call Pat Libowitz at 410-547-8947. To arrange interviews with Burdick and Klein, please call me at 410-955-1534.
