On-Campus Housing

The Lowell J. Reed Hall

Eligibility for Housing

Reed Hall is a residence hall for single students or those students who are unaccompanied by their spouse and family. Full-time degree candidate students of the School of Medicine and The Bloomberg School of Public Health may apply for occupancy in Reed Hall.

The submission of an application does not guarantee the accommodations requested.  When assignments are made, the applicant will receive a room agreement which must be signed and returned with a deposit in advance to guarantee the reservation of the room offered.

Room Agreements

Room agreements are offered for the full academic year only to students and are binding for the ENTIRE period specified.  Clinical Clerks in The School of Medicine and Child Life students in the Hospital may also obtain housing for shorter periods, if there is room availability.

Due to the small number of rooms in Reed Hall, the residence hall is primarily designed to house first-year students in both schools. Renewal beyond one year is limited and those requesting renewal will participate in a room lottery.

Room Accommodations

Reed Hall consists of two air-conditioned wings with connecting lobby area.

The West Wing offers three sizes of single rooms (see application); however, the number of medium and large singles is limited.  Each floor has a large community bath and shower area.  Note: There are no rooms with private baths.  There are no kitchens in the west for cooking.  Cooking appliances such as toaster ovens, hot plates, hot pots, and crock pots are not permitted in the West Wing.  Large refrigerators are also not permitted in the West Wing.  Small dorm size refrigerators and microwave ovens are permitted.  One room on each floor of the West Wing contains a microwave oven for use by residents.  (See floor plan.)

The East Wing consists of suites arranged with common living room, kitchen, and bathroom areas with adjoining private bedrooms.  The majority of suites accommodate four single individuals.  (See floor plan.)

Furnishings

All rooms in both wings are furnished with bed, chest of drawers, desk and desk lamp, chair, book shelves, and closet space.   Each West Wing room is carpeted and equipped with venetian blinds and study chair.  East Wing bedrooms also have venetian blinds.  All East Wing suites are carpeted.  Residents of both wings must provide their own bedding and towels.  East Wing residents must also provide dishes, silverware, and utensils for the kitchen area.

Telephones

Reed Hall does not provide phones in student rooms.   Students may contact Verizon on arrival if they wish to have a telephone installed.

Parking

A limited number of parking spaces are available on lots close to Reed Hall for a monthly fee.  Parking information will be sent out with room agreements.  Parking is only available for 9-12 month tenants.
