The first day of the rest of their lives
Before stethocopes and white coats distinguish them, these
members of the School of Medicine's Class of 2009 look
a lot like regular people. They are five of the 120 chosen
from 4,298 applicants. Sixty-eight in the class are men,
reversing a three-year trend favoring women. Minorities
make up 16 percent (up from last year's 11 percent). They
hail from 31 states, with California first and Maryland
second. And the dominant undergraduate schools? Hopkins,
Harvard, Yale, UCLA and UNC. Vive
le mélange! |
