Pushing
the Envelopes March 16 was Match Day across America, and
here at the School of Medicine, the precious white
envelopes, which contain news of where medical students
will do their residency training, were ceremoniously
delivered to Turner Concourse just before noon. “Secret
Service” agents (aka med students), attired
in black and sporting ear wires and head phones, watched
over them as deans delivered their remarks and student
leaders looked back on four years. “There are
some things you can’t share without ending up
liking each other,” said David Grelotti, head
of the Medical Student Society, with apologies to
Harry Potter author JK Rowling, “and knocking
out a 12-foot mountain troll is one of them.”
Then, as the envelopes were opened, a deafening silence
gave way to shrieks of joy. The Class of ’06
was on its way.
